Details: PRIMARY FUNCTION:To coordinate all aspects of the Veterinary Technician program to include instruction, student externships, veterinary technician labs, accreditation, advising, supervisory, regulatory, kennel, teaching, protocol and curriculum development, manage large animal practicum, animal care, patient care, animal procurement and disposition, inventory management, veterinary technology (VT) personnel and faculty management. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and maintain knowledge of all AVMA and USDA-APHIS-AC rules and regulations. Provide assistance to the Dean of the School Veterinary Technology in faculty hiring process; assess competency level of each VT instructor, thoroughly review all faculty credentials ensuring ACICS, AVMA and USDA-APHIS-AC guidelines are maintained.      Evaluate weekly lesson plans submitted by VT instructors to assure achievement of course objectives in accordance with prepared syllabus including AVMA competencies and content areas. Assist the Dean of the School Veterinary Technology with VT faculty observation andperformance reviews; monitor VT faculty to assure students are being prepared in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning domains in the classroom, and student competency checklists are utilized to track student skill development. Plan, coordinate, and conduct workshops and seminars for VT faculty to assure they earn CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) annually in compliance with IVMA and AVMA accreditation requirements. Conduct new instructor orientation program to include accepted protocols for IACUC, USDA-APHIS-AC,  AVMA, OSHA, DOJ-DEA, etc. Provide academic counseling and guidance to VT students on probationary status and those experiencing difficulty.   Identify and coordinate VT externships; work closely with veterinary technician employers to develop externships, place students in those externships, monitor student progress or deficiencies at extern sites, provide counseling or remedial training, maintain detailed log of student attendance. Coordinate externship site visits at least once per quarter and complete visit documentation. Coordinate administration of student extern evaluations at completion 270 hours by the site supervisor as part of the externship grade.  Provide instruction for performing all veterinary technician duties such as but not limited to: physical exam, ascertaining patient history, client education, diagnostic laboratory procedures, record keeping, patient care, imaging and radiology, animal restraint, veterinary office procedures, pre-intra and post operative care, pharmacology, dosage calculations, drug administration, principles of anesthesia, drug inventory and regulations, veterinary juris prudence and ethics, basic sciences etc.. Manage and maintain VT laboratories; conduct equipment set-up and inventory, coordinate equipment calibration and repair, maintenance, supply inventory, maintain equipment logs, comply with OSHA regulations (including MSDS), standard operating procedures, manage  DOJ-DEA controlled substances procedures  and monitor regulation and disposal of hazardous VT waste. Maintain and assess VT program to assure compliance with ACICS, AVMA, USDA-APHIS-AC, OSHA, HAZMAT, and DOJ-DEA. Assist the VT Curriculum Chair in the evaluation of subjects taught to include the revision of course outlines and syllabi, core test questions and test outs, selection of textbooks and other teaching aids, and development of curricula as needed. Assist the Dean of the School Veterinary Technology in completion of AIR that involves the VT program and analyze statistics for IEP; update IEP quarterly to analyze internal and external measurements (student, advisory board, graduate, and employer surveys) and outcomes. Assist Admissions department in VT program recruitment and meet with students enrolled in School of Veterinary Technology in accordance with the Harrison College student catalog. Assist in completing and updating AVMA, USDA and other reports, analyzing mandated surveys and outcomes, compare to established thresholds and develop plan of correction as requested by Executive Director, and the Dean of the School Veterinary Technology. Act as the Director of Career Services for the School of Veterinary Technology in recruiting VT program Advisory Board members representing the mandated communities of interest in accordance with AVMA Standards and Guidelines, to review curriculum and provide expert advice. Teaching responsibilities will vary from quarter to quarter and will be dependent on school size, number of externships, etc.   Coordinate field trips, guest speakers, and community involvement for VT students. Attend meetings, commencement exercises, and other related school functions as required. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean of the School Veterinary Technology
